Less is More

I ran the Brooks Phil Pansegrouw half-marathon out in the Durbanville hills this morning. Pretty much on a whim. And on just two weeks of cross training (no training the prior week) which included only two pretty lousy 6k runs. But I had a fantastic run with a pretty decent time – 2h36 – not fast, but better than my last two 21k races. Guess it shows that less is more. And that cross training makes you a better runner. All the hiking and spinning has definitely strengthened my quads and today I actually ran up many of the hills on the course.

No aches and pains afterwards just a little soreness in the quads – I’ve come a long way since my first half in Knysna in July after which I felt shattered! This time round I had the energy afterwards to spend the afternoon with friends, swimming and drinking beer in the sun (while staying well hydrated of course), and I feel fantastic. Yoga tomorrow and then I’ll be working towards running a better time on the Avbob 15k race on December 12th, which may be my last race for the year.

This week’s training log follows below in case you’re interested.
