Top Form 10km

After this race I decided 2 things:
1) I don't like races with loops; and
2) I will never again run a race which doesn't offer a finisher's medal.

Let me explain. Loops are boring and it's exhausting when you finish one or two and know you still have to do it a third time. This race was 3 loops of 3.3km, when it would have been pretty easy for them to measure out a 5km run and make it an out and back route.
Second, I don't run races just for the medals. But they're a great memento and my kid loves to wear them. We collect them and at the end of the year reflect on all the races we've run. I feel a sense of accomplishment. I'm running 5 trail races in order to get just one medal - but in that case I know that the money saved from producing the medals is going to conservation efforts, to protect the nature reserves in which we run trail races. And I do eventually get my medal. Besides, the Nedbank race book said there'd be medals. and if I just wanted to run 10km, I could lace up my shoes and run around the block, for FREE. What do I do with the glass handed out at the end? Craziness.

btw, the trail running has suddenly increased my running niggles. Sore left shin and slightly sore right achilles tendon. It's rather annoying. Sitting and typing this with my shin taped. I don't have kinesio tape so just using normal athletic tape.

Despite this, I decided today to register for the Peninsula half-marathon, at the last minute as entries close at midnight. It's a tough course, rated harder than the Lion of Africa half, but I'm a sucker for a route with views, and a medal of course. They say this is a medal that you wear with pride because the course is so tough. I'm hardcore like that;-)
